How Can I Tell If a Property Is Contaminated With Asbestos?

Asbestos Inspection / ASSESSMENT

Due to its apparent indestructible properties, asbestos was touted as a “miracle mineral” and widely used in home and building construction. All properties constructed prior to the EPA ban on asbestos in the 1970s could be viewed with suspicion, as they may contain asbestos. In addition, any property which includes reused or recycled materials may also be contaminated. In some cases, asbestos-based materials are still being used in new residential and commercial construction. The best way to determine the presence of asbestos is to contact us for an asbestos inspection and assessment. KLA Contractors provides this service throughout an extensive service area.

Did you know before any renovation / demolition of any commercial property, Pennsylvania Law requires you must have an asbestos inspection / assessment completed.  Contact your local municipality for more information.

What Are the Most Common Asbestos Contaminated Building Materials?

Considering its extreme potential for causing harm, the extent of asbestos contamination in homes and buildings is quite shocking. We believe this highlights why it is so important to make plans to properly contain construction debris prior to beginning any renovation project. Our Asbestos Abatement Procedures

Our technicians perform asbestos abatement within a sealed enclosure. We turn off air handling units serving the affected area until all work is completed. While working on your property, you may notice our team members wearing personal protective equipment including respirators and disposable coveralls to protect themselves from asbestos exposure and disposing them when exiting the enclosure. These procedures are designed to prevent attached asbestos fibers from escaping into the air.

Air Analysis for Occupancy

Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM Method)

When the asbestos abatement job is completed, our technician may collect air samples for analysis under a phase-contrast microscope. Based on satisfactory results, the area is then cleared for re-entry. If results are unsatisfactory, the area will be re-cleaned and/or re-sampled as necessary. When the area is declared “clear,” it is then opened to normal occupancy and warning signs are removed.
